When’s dū heading Wastrū? (pronounced Wastroo) is how we would ask someone when they were next intending to go to Shetland West Mainland. This hat is inspired by Shetland’s beautiful “Wastside” which as well as being my home, is the place where Shetland sheep graze providing us with our own 100% Shetland Murrister wool.

The pattern is offered in two adult sizes. The brim section has two sets of stitch numbers but in the body and crown sections the stitch counts are the same. The hat size, after the brim, is altered by adjusting the needle size. Shetland wool should be hand washed and rinsed in hand hot water. Wrap item in a towel or a very light spin in a washing machine to remove excess water. Stretch hat over a bowl of a suitable size and leave to dry.
