In Shetland nearly every hill, headland and knowe (small hillock) has its own distinctive name. One of the reasons for this is that every spot of land where sheep or cattle graze can be described. The name, Novazembla was brought to Shetland by sailors from Svalbard who travelled to Shetland. They settled and named their croft Novazembla as a link to their homeland. Now, Novazembla is where Shetland native breed sheep graze providing us with our own 100% Shetland Murrister wool.
